2025 In Focus (Day 16)

Ephesians 4:26-27

Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil.

Anger can be a fickle emotion. Anger can also be a misunderstood feeling. Many times people say that you must find a way to control your anger so that it does not cause you to do anything destructive. We are finding that it is healthy to have anger, but how we focus it can make a difference.

Paul writes be angry, but don’t sin. The suggestion is that anger has a proper place. Anger used effectively can motivate a person to change a condition. Anger demonstrated in a healthy way can aid in someone filtering through a moment. It is when anger drives an individual towards an act of destruction that it becomes a harmful emotion to display.

Our actions represent a space for operation. Whatever we allow to fill that space, that entity will control the narrative regarding our feelings and emotions. When we allow anything other than God to control the narrative, we become subject to the story that unchecked emotions wrote. We must be careful in filtering through how we feel any given moment.

We should never suppress how we feel. Yet, we cannot allow anything to run our lives unchecked. Take a step back and consult God about what you’re going through. Take a moment to consider the ramifications for acting out of your feelings. While all of our emotions are valid, all of our actions have consequences. Feel everything. Don’t self-destruct.

2025 In Focus (Day 15)

Proverbs 18:21

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.

Health experts say that part of a healthy diet includes fruits and vegetables. Sometimes, some fruits and vegetables might not be the best for individual diets. The premise makes perfect sense. Many people live their entire lives on a vegetarian or vegan diet. I believe there’s one key to fruits and vegetables being unnecessary part of one’s diet. Those fruits and vegetables must be free of contaminants.

The scripture says that life and death are in the power of the tongue. However, the most important part of the scripture is after understanding the power. It says whatever we speak we will eat the fruit of it. Imagine eating your words. What would they taste like? Would your words be sugary and cause diabetes? Would your words be salty and cause high blood pressure? Or could your words bring health, wealth, and strength to your overall being?

We must make sure that we examine what we eat. While life and environment may cause a great deal of harm to us, we might want to assess our own self-destructive attitudes. You don’t need anyone to be your enemy to destroy you. A negative tongue from your own body can kill you quicker. Change your diet. Change your life.

2025 In Focus (Day 14)

I Samuel 20:18

Then Jonathan said to him, “Tomorrow is the new moon, and you will be missed, because your seat will be empty.

The most difficult changes usually happen when our loved ones leave us. It marks an end to a season in our lives of great significance. Every time I think about those who have gone to receive their heavenly reward, my eyes get misty because it feels like only yesterday That they were here.

The verse marks an end to the face-to-face relationship between Jonathan and David. Jonathan knew that his father saw wanted to eliminate David. Jonathan also knew that the hand of the Lord was on David’s life. Jonathan willingly chose to release his best friend in order that God‘s will would be done. He knew that his father was not thinking properly. Jonathan chose to be selfless rather than feed into selfishness.

The difficult thing about any semblance of death or separation is the thin line between selfishness and selflessness. I wish that my heroes could see me now. I wish I could call them on the phone, ask for advice, and tell them how much their presence means to me. I wish I had one more chance to publicly acknowledge their greatness. However, I can’t help but think that my desire would’ve been an interference to their ultimate reward.

It is okay to grieve. It is okay to remember. It is okay to weep. It’s okay to wish for days gone by. It is also okay to remember that while their earthly seat is empty, they now sit in a higher place. They have received an eagle eyed view of everything you are doing. Celebrate their seat upgrade because now they can see you achieving greatness.
